Number 12 - P vs NP

This topic is getting a little mathematical.

 philosophy
fɪˈlɒsəfi/
noun
  1. 1.
the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence, especially when considered as an academic discipline.

Given this is a definition of philosophy this topic fits well within our topic.

What P vs NP really asks is simply put as

"are there some problems that computers will never be able to assist us with, or is it that we just haven't yet figured out the method yet?."

Given the recent advances is computing power this raises a timely question. While this topic is far more mathematical than the others we have explored I think it really worth exploring. Find an easy solution for one of the NP-Complete problems and you'll also win $1,000,000. Ever wondered why some people study maths? this should give you some motivation!

This question also raises the interesting question of whether we discover or invent Mathematics. If it is invented then who owns that piece of knowledge? A movie called "The Travelling Salesman" addresses this curious problem. BT can give you a link if you are interested.

This problem has been referenced in many forms of pop-culture. Including The Simpsons, Futurama, Elementary and many more. Let us know what you discover
